When the Europeans came they bargained with Maori to buy land. It wasn’t really fair as Maori had no idea what things were worth. So they would sell large bits of land for some blankets.
I can see how it happens though.
If someone offered me three jars of honey I would sell Waiheke but it may be worth a bit more.
